Lost Season 5

Lost returns on Wednesday, January 21st with a three-hour premiere! At 8:00 p.m. a one hour recap episode will appear. Â
Two new episodes will air from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. EST (Episode 5x01 "Because You Left" and Episode 5x02 "The Lie")
According to producer Damon Lindelof, Season 5 will explain why "[the Oceanic 6 and the others who left the island] need to get back". Also, the previous method of storytelling (flasbacks or flashforwards) will be differnt in Season 5. Part of each episode will take place off the island and the other part will follow the characters still on the island at different points in time. We will also learn what happened to the island in the season premiere (did it move to another location or backwards or forward in time?).
The writers have annouced that Jin will appear in Season 5, although it is unknown whether he is alive. E! Online insists that Jin survived the freighter explosion and remains a main character. Claire is also not expected to be a main character in Season 5, although she will feature prominently in Seasons 6 and 7. We will be seeing Rousseau and Walt again, but it is likely that Michael is dead and will not return.
We will learn more about the backstories of Ben, Rousseau, Richard Alpert, Miles and Daniel Faraday. The writers also intend to provide some answers to our questions, including why Libby was in a mental institution, what happened between Ben and Henry Gale (the man who crashed on the island in the hot air balloon), how Ben ended up in Rousseau's trap in Seson 2 and the four-toed statue.
THEORIES: Many people are theorizing that the island actually moved back in time to the 1970s, which will allow us to see the early days of the DHARMA Initiative on the island. There is also a rumor that the reason Jack needs to get the Ocean 6 back together is because he needs each of them to go to a DHARMA station around the world. These stations will be the key in getting back to the island. Â

This promo shows some more scenes from those left behind on the island (including the freighter crew), as well as scenes with Desmond and Penny
Michelle Rodriquez, who played Ana Lucia Cortez, will be returning for episode 5x02. As you may recall, Ana Lucia was killed by Michael in Season 2. It is unknown whether Ana Lucia will appear in a flashback or as a hallucination (maybe Hurley's hallucination?)
Lance Reddick, who plays creepy Matthew Abbadon who recruited the freighter crew, will be returning, likely in episode 5x06. Â
Nestor Carbonell will appear again as the ageless Richard Alpert (he appears in one of the above promos with John Locke). Alpert will explain some of the mysterious of the island to Locke in Season 5. Â
Cheech Marin will appear again as Hurley's father, David Reyes in episode 5x02. Â Â
Grant Bowler will reprise his role as the dead freighter captain, Gault. He was killed back in Season 4, so it is unknown whether he will appear as a hallucination or in a flashback. Â
Mrs. Hawking, who sold Desmond the engagement ring he planned to give to Penny, will be returning in Season 5. When she last appeared, she seemed to have the ability to see the future. In Season 5 we learn that she has a connection (and may be related to) another character on the show.
Entertainment Weekly says that Alan Dale (Charles Widmore) and John Terry (Christian Sheppard) will both appear as guest stars in Season 5 and may be promoted to main characters in Season 6. Â
Season 5 Locations
Filming for an episode in Season 5 occured at Santa Rosa Mental Hospital. The crew filmed Locke visiting Hurley. This is likely the scene where Jeremy Bentham (aka John Locke) visited Hurley and told him he and the rest of the Oceanic 6 need to return to the island. Â
Sayid and Ben will be visiting Oldham Pharmaceutical in Russia. It is unknown whether this will happen in the present or whether it happened when they first left the island and Sayid was working for Ben as his personal assassin. Â
Desmond will be visiting Oxford University again. Desmond first flashed back to Oxford University in Season 4, where he visited Daniel Faraday during a mental time traveling incident. These scenes will likely take place during Episode 5x04 "The Little Prince". Â
Episode 5x02 "The Lie" (January 21, 2009): Hurley and Sayid are on the run from the cops after stumbling into trouble at the safehouse; the island survivors come under attack by unknown forces; and an old friend offers some shocking advice to Kate in order to ensure that "the lie" remain a secret.
Episode 5x03 "Jughead" (January 28, 2009): Desmond appears in this episode and Hurley seems to be involved in another car chase.
Episode 5x04 "The Little Prince" (February 4, 2009): Charlotte will have a bloody nose and be passed out for a while, with Faraday by her side. Miles and Juliet will also have nosebleeds. Locke wants to return to the Orchid station. Back on land, Sayid is attacked and he then relucltanly joins Ben to extract Hurley. Jack resigns from his job at the hospital and is later reunited with Kate, Sayid, Ben and Sun. We also learn of Jin's fate in this episode. Ethan appears in a flashback. Â
Episode 5x05 "This Place is Death" (February 11, 2009): No information is currently known about this episode.
Episode 5x06 "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" (February 18, 2009): This episode will show Locke off the island visiting members of the Oceanic 6 and others. He visits Hurley in the mental hospital and meets up with Walt. He also visits his father's grave, along with Matthew Abbadon.
Episode 5x07 "316" (February 25, 2009): We will meet Jack's grandfather (played by Raymond Barry) for the first time in this episode.
Episode 5x08 "La Fleur" (March 4, 2009): A new character named Amy (played by Reiko Aylesworth) will appear in this episode. It is rumored that she will be an employee of the DHARMA Initiative.
Episode 5x09 "Namaste" (March 11, 2009): A new character named Marty Jankowsky (played by Eric Lange) will appear in this episode. Â
Episode 5x10 "He's Our You" (March 18, 2009): Sayid and Ben will be visiting Russia in this episode. We will also see flashbacks to Sayid's childhood, including seeing his father.
