Sam Anderson

Sam was born in North Dakota in 1945. He graduated from the University of North Dakota and taught drama in California during the 1970s. Sam has appeared in many television shows, including recurring roles on Perfect Strangers, Growing Pains and Angel: The Series. He has also appeared in Picket Fences, The Pretender, The X-Files, Millennium, Friends, Ally McBeal, ER and Everybody Loves Raymond.

Sam has also appeared in several feature films, including Forrest Gump, Slackers, Permanent Midnight and La Bamba.

Sam was cast as Bernard Nadler on Lost and first appeared in Season 2 of the series.

Bernard Nadler

Bernard is a 56 year old dentist when he first meets Rose Henderson and proposes to her five months later in Niagara Falls. After Rose told Bernard she had cancer and only had a year left to live, Bernard said he wanted to marry her regardless. While on their honeymoon in Australia, Bernard admitted that he had donated a large sum of money to a faith healer in hopes that the healer would be able to cure Rose's cancer. While Rose initially resisted the idea, Bernard insisted that he was desperate to save her because he loved her. The healer was unable to cure Rose, but Rose insisted that they keep that fact a secret from Bernard.

Bernard was in the restroom in the tail section of Oceanic Flight 815 when it split apart in mid-air and crashed. Bernard survives on the beach with the other Tailies, including Ana Lucia Cortez, Libby and Mr. Eko. After the Others invade the Tailies' camp, Bernard is one of the few remaining survivors. The Tailies move inland and find the Arrow station, where Bernard finds a radio. He connects briefly with Boone Carlyle, who has found another radio in a beech craft airplane that had crashed on the island. Both Bernard and Boone insist that thy are the survivors of Flight 815, though neither knows that people from the other half of the plane had survived.

Bernard learns that Rose is still alive when Michael, Jin and Sawyer arrive at the Tailies' beach. Bernard accompanies the three of them, along with the other remaining Tailies, to the survivors' beach on the other side of the island.

Bernard attempts to get the survivors rescued by building a giant SOS sign along the beach, but Rose is against it. When she later tells him that the island cured her cancer, Bernard agrees to remain on the island with her.

At the end of Season 3, Bernard offers to stay behind on the beach and ambush some of the Others, while Jack leads the survivors up to the radio tower to contact the freighter. Bernard, Sayid and Jin are initially captured by the Others, but are saved by Sawyer, Juliet and Hurley.

Bernard and Rose are reunited in the jungle and when Jack and Locke part ways, Bernard agrees to return to Jack's beach along with Rose. Later, Bernard assists Juliet perform an appendicectomy on Jack. Bernard is on the island when Ben moves it and he and Rose vanish with the other survivors.
