Richard stops the group on the beach, below the foot of the now-broken statue. Richard says this is where Jacob lives.
Back in 1977, there's a nice stand-off going on in the middle of the jungle. Sawyer tells Jack they need to talk and he wants five minutes. The two boys go off to chat.
Cut to a hospital, where Jack and his father are performing surgery. Jack says he cut the patient's dural sac and this is the story Jack told Kate the first time they met. It's actually Christian who taught Jack to count to five to get over his fear. Outside of the operating room, Jack is buying an Apollo chocolate bar from a vending machine, but it gets stuck. Christian comes out to tell Jack that the operation went well and the patient is fine.
Jack says Christian embarrassed him inside the operating room by giving him a time-out. Christian walks up and Jacob hands Jack an Apollo bar.
In 1977, Jack and Sawyer go have a seat in the jungle. Sawyer tells Jack how his parents died. Sawyer tells Jack that he could have left the island before now and stopped his father from killing his mother, but "what's done is done". Jack says it doesn't have to be that way. Sawyer thinks that Jack screwed up something the first time around and now he wants to fix it, but Jack denies it. He says three years ago Locke told him everything was happening for a reason - that this was their destiny. Sawyer doesn't believe in destiny. Is Jack the new Locke and Sawyer the new Jack?
Jack admits that he had Kate but lost her. Sawyer tells Jack to go reunite with her, but Jack says it's too late. Jack gets up to leave and Sawyer points out that if Jack's plan works he and Kate won't meet. But Jack is convinced that if it's meant to be, it'll happen. Sawyer then starts beating the crap out of Jack and the boys fight. Sawyer's pissed that Jack ruined his life on the island, but Jack seems to be winning the fight. At least until Sawyer smacks him with a big branch. Jack refuses to stop so Sawyer keeps beating him.
Juliet comes by and says Sawyer should stop because Jack is right.
Cut to a young Juliet and her sister Rachel. Their parents are telling them that they're going to get a divorce. Juliet's very upset.
Back in 1977, Sawyer wants Juliet to explain why she changed her mind. Juliet says she saw how Sawyer looked at Kate. Sawyer says he's with Juliet, but she says that maybe they weren't supposed to be together. She walks away crying.
At the Swan site, the drilling continues. Chang tells Radzinsky that if they keep drilling they'll hit an energy pocket and back things will happen. Phil radios Radzinsky and tells him what happened with Sayid and Jack at Dharmaville. Radzinsky calls for reinforcements, but Jack's already close to the site, watching what's happening.
Kate finds Jack and reminds him of the first time they met. She finally tells him that she came back to the island to reunite Claire and Aaron. When Jack says that if he changes the future Claire and Aaron will be together, Kate says Claire was actually going to give Aaron up for adoption. Jack says they don't know that that will happen. Jack says that he truly believes this is the right thing to do and he needs Kate to believe him.
An alarm is going off at the Swan station. Radzinsky orders the drilling to continue and Jack realizes the incident will happen soon. He asks Kate if she's with him and she says she is.
Cut to Hurley, being let out of prison, presumably in 2007 before he boarded the Ajira flight. Hurley tells the desk officer he's making a mistake in letting him go. Hurley leaves the jail and gets into a cab with Jacob, who offers to share the cab with him. Jacob has the guitar case in the car with him.
Jacob greets Hurley by name and says he was waiting for him. Jacob asks why Hurley won't go back to the island and Hurley says it's because he's cursed. Jacob says that maybe Hurley is blessed and that's why he can talk to people that he lost. Jacob tells Hurley that he's definitely not crazy. He then tells Hurley about the Ajira flight and leaves the guitar case in the cab.
Hurley is tending to Sayid now. Jack returns to the VW bus to tell the others what's going on. Sayid says the bomb is set to go and is rigged to explode on impact. Faraday left instructions for them to get as close as they could to the source of the energy. Sayid says nothing can save him now and Jack takes off alone with the bomb and a gun.
Jack meets up with Juliet and Sawyer in the jungle but just walks by them. He says "see ya in Los Angeles" to Sawyer.
It's now night on the beach in 2007 and Locke is staring at the statue's foot. Richard asks if Locke really wants to do this. Locke says he's tired of waiting and the two go off. Sun asks what happened to the rest of the statue, but Ben says he doesn't know. Locke tells Ben to accompany him and Richard. Richard wants to know why Ben is coming and says it isn't allowed: only one leader can exist at a time and only the leader can request an audience with Jacob. Locke doesn't buy Richard's "rules" and says Ben is coming.
Richard presses on a block at the base of the statue and pushes open a door. Locke and Ben enter without him. Inside, Locke asks Ben if he's prepared to do this and says that things will change when Jacob is gone. Ben takes the dagger.
In 1977, Jin is trying to put fresh bandages on Sayid's wound. Miles asks Sawyer if Jack might cause the incident, not prevent it. Jin and the others see Phil approaching in a jeep. Juliet says "live together, die alone" which I guess means the others will be joining Jack in his crazy plan.
Phil arrives at the Swan site and positions his men around it to guard the site. Chang looks on worriedly and Jack tries to find a way in. Phil spots Jack and starts shooting. The VW bus drives by and Kate and Juliet start shooting at the Dharma people. Sawyer joins in on the fight as Jack makes his way down into the Swan dig site. Sawyer takes Phil hostage. Sawyer tells Jack to get on with it.
Sawyer orders Chang to turn off the drill, but it won't shut down. Jack goes to drop the bomb down the hole and looks over at Kate. Sawyer looks over at Juliet.
And then Jack drops the bomb as Juliet starts to cry.
And then nothing happens. Greaaaaaat. The drill starts going haywire and all of the metal wrench, etc starts getting sucked into the hole by the electromagnetic force. Chang's hand gets crushed and I think this is how he loses an arm. Jack gets a smack on the head and Kate runs over to help him. Miles frees Chang and Radzinsky tries to drive off, but the jeep is getting sucked in by the energy. Phil picks up Sawyer's gun and goes to shoot him, but he gets impaled by a metal rod.
Chains wrap around Juliet's legs and she starts getting pulled into the hole. Kate tries to save her and then Sawyer joins in. Juliet nearly falls to her death but Sawyer grabs onto her. Juliet sees that a big piece of machinery will crush Sawyer and she says that she loves him then she lets go and gets sucked into the hole. Sawyer sobs. I cry too.
Back in 2007, Sun is sitting on the beach when Richard sits down beside her. Bram, Ilana, Lapidus and the other boys arrive. The Ajira people put down their guns and ask for Richard. Richard approaches Ilana and she asks "what lies in the shadow of the statue" He provides the correct answer, in Latin, but I don't know the answer. She introduces herself and tells her boys to open the box....Richard needs to see what's inside.
There's a body inside the box, but we can't see the face. No, wait, it's Locke. LOCKE!? WHAT?! Sun sums it up.... "if this is Locke, who's in there?"
Who indeed! Ben and FakeLocke arrive at the weaving room from the beginning of the episode. Jacob is sitting in a chair and greets Locke. He talks to them about weaving. Is Locke Mr. Black Shirt from the beginning of the episode? Jacob says FakeLocke found his "loophole". Ben realizes that something fishy is going on and asks if they've met before. FakeLocke tells Ben to kill Jacob and Jacob tells Ben "you have a choice". Ben doesn't believe he has a choice.
Ben says that Jacob has finally stopped ignoring him. He says that he was a perfect Jacob servant for 35 years. And he's terribly jealous that Locke could just see Jacob on command. He wants to know why Locke is more special than him. Then Ben stabs Jacob multiple times. Jacob says "they're coming" and FakeLocke looks freaked out.
FakeLocke pushes Jacob into the fire and watches him burn. Dude! This is INSANE.
Back at the Swan site in 1977, Jack is slowly getting up and he and Kate pry Sawyer away from the hole where Juliet just died. Swayer is inconsolable. We see Juliet's body at the bottom of the hole but amazingly she's not dead. She cries and then sees the bomb close by. She grabs a rock and starts smacking at the bomb core. She hits it one last time and then there's a flash of white light and.....it's done. WHAT?! NO! I cannot wait 10 months to see what happens. This finale was INSANE!
